Venus in firs by BenCoffman

*I just announced my 2016 night-sky photography workshops, where I teach all of my in-field and post-processing techniques. Check my website for details.*

Friend and fellow photographer Mitch Carlson accompanied me for this shoot several weeks back. The goal was to capture the planet Venus shining brightly in the skies over South Falls (Silver Falls State Park). Despite some patchy fog that was pretty think in places, we got lucky and made it happen.

I beg of you, plead of you, please give this one a click to view it on a dark background.

I had shot a similar composition over three years ago. I’d never quite been happy with that old photo, which was extremely dark and had some problems with the light painting techniques I’d used. This is a really challenging place to shoot for various reasons, but I feel like I made significant improvements on that old image.

Thanks for checking out the photo!

Butte Creek Falls, Marion county, Oregon
Novembar 2015.
78 foot waterfall on a Butte Creek trail consists total of 3 waterfalls, more famous Upper Butte Creek Falls, Butte and Lower Butte Creek Waterfall. All roaming through thick maple and evergreen forests, steep cliffs and slippery rocks which makes this one particularly really hard base accessible during rain hours.
This is single frame image processed in LR with PS Orton Effect added in PS.
Fall is for me special part of the year to visit diversity what Oregon can offer for us landscape photographer, from high wave actions on Pacific through high altitude fall colors with lush blue waterfalls and snow covered peaks, combinations that every landscape photographer wants, and that was my trip consistent from.

And for most and not the last, my prayers goes for the injured and killed in massive attack in Paris, FR.
Europe, France stay strong!

Canyon Burst by GreggB

Shooting into the Sun and getting good images is challenging. One has to take multiple exposures and combine them together in Photoshop, or similar software, to overcome limitations of camera’s dynamic range. On this shot I did just that, and took 7 shots to get correctly exposed brightest brights and darkest darks without clipping anything. I then blended everything in Photoshop using luminosity masking technique.
Please view it on black.
For those interested, I and two cancellations for my Autumn Patagonia Workshop in April 2016. If you’d like to go navigate to my website http://www.eveningphotography.com for more details. I’m running it with my good friend and excellent photographer from Western Australia Neal Pritchard. Yes, I’ll have some Australians on my workshop….
G’day mates.

Fog winding through the Sandy River Valley near the town of Sandy, Oregon. If you are driving to Mt Hood from Portland, it’s worth stopping at the Jonsrud Viewpoint. The views can be spectacular!
